Experience is mostly positive. We are using Traveler for Nokia devices since first version it was available for Nokia. Had some installation issues on some devices. Little bit confusing is installation process, when you had additional step of unzipping configuration file, and then hit back in browser. The biggest issue so far is change in a way SMS push is working in Traveler 8.5.1. SMS push was great battery saver, now it doesn’t drop connection and is practically identical to TCP mode. We use older Nokia client due to this.
We are currently using 27 various Nokia devices. Total device count is 50 something.
We are an IBM Business Partner who use Travelr to run several Nokia E71 phones.
The experience is generally excellent. We have very few drop outs. The only problem we have come across was the first time we installed Traveler it was on the same server that runs our web site and Traveler took over our web site page.
A quick fix in the end, but it wasn’t obvious from the documentation that was going to happen.
We use 3 Australia as the ISP.
We have also set Traveler up for several clients who all love the product.
What has been your experience with Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.1 on Nokia devices? Positive?
Very positive. I have a Nokia E71 and so far I have got two customers deploying it on E71’s as well.
Th E71 is very like a Blackberry which has been a big win in existing Blackberry customers as its a device very familiar.
Its been a breeze to setup and use compared to Blackberry’s as well.
We did have issues with pre 8.5.1 and the E71 dropping syncs randomly (8.5.1 has fixed this). But I had a UK CEO, walking down a New York street call me saying she was about to go into a meeting and her E71 had stopped syncing. I was able to remote onto her UK Domino server, issue a single remote sync command and by the time she had walked to her meeting her E71 was back working perfectly!!!
How many do you currently have deployed within your company?
6 in a 17 person company - a real mix of all the platform options.
Which service provider(s)/carrier(s) do you use for your Nokia devices?
What has been your experience with Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.1 on Nokia devices? Positive? We are using mixture of E51, E66, E71, E75-1, E90 Nokia devices. Deployment is not smooth as it is with iPhone but it is better with 8.5.1 than 8.5. Some people would like to have ability to schedule to autosync during certain hours. Also for the end users there should be easy way to see and disable autosync when they are roaming (abroad). Or even policy to disable autosync when not connected to preferred carrier since data roaming charges abroad are very high. Also Directory lookup similar that there is in iPhone version would be a plus.
How many do you currently have deployed within your company?
We have 51 users with 30 Traveler clients and out of the 30 we have 3 iPhones.
Which service provider(s)/carrier(s) do you use for your Nokia devices?
We are just starting to roll out devices. Our parent company set up the server, so I have only experience with the device end. So far we have tested a number of Nokias and HTC (winmo) devices and only rolled out 2 of 12 handsets to our managers (the delay is due to not being able to get our preferred phone - the E75 - from our provider).
I have found setting them up can be a little hit & miss
at first, it wasn’t obvious that the configuration file was zipped and needed to be extracted on the device
initial data exchange can take quite some time. It drops out & re-connects. It can take up to 12 hrs for the handset to receive all its data. Not sure if this is a problem with our provider, the handsets, or the server.
The feedback once the device is set up is “rock solid”.
We are using Telstra (Australia) as a service provider.
What has been your experience with Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.1 on Nokia devices? Positive?
– Experience has been generally positive. The setup was pretty easy but the documentation (esp. ports to open) could have been better. Would also like to see support for servers other than Windows Server 2003.
How many do you currently have deployed within your company?
– I am a one-man shop, so just myself.
Which service provider(s)/carrier(s) do you use for your Nokia devices?
1.) Well the experience depend on the point of view
Great:
No Blackberry Service neccessary!
Works reliable
It’s for free
Not so great:
Battery performance; since install of traveler my battery just work for about max. 20h!
Slows down the performance of the phone (a least a bit)
data lost! Let me explain this a bit: I’m using Nokia smart phones since the first hour. From 9000 to 9100; 9210; 9500; E90 and now E75. So I’m really used to use all the fields the telephone book is offering me (e.g. Mobile(private), Mobile(work)…). Here lies the problem: The traveler isn’t supporting all fields out of the box. Something I realized much to late. I found out, that there is a way to customize the field connections, but until now theres a lot of trail and error (can’t find a field discribtion / reference for the nokia phonebook). A little expample:
Field in Lotus addressbook: mobile2
syncs with
Field in E75 addressbook: Fon.(work)
(I hope that I translate the fields correctly; I only got a german phone)
I seems for me, that some field aren’t connected correctly and some fields from Nokia aren’t connected anyway.
This is a big problem, for someone like me, who had mostly more than one phonenumber per addressentry.
But maybe this is my fault? Is someone experience the same problems?
Missing Linux support (I was so proud of my Linux Notes, but now had to switch back)
I personally use LNT on my Nokia 61i since the first Nokia version was available. LNT is very stable and I connect to the server OTA as well as Wifi.In our company I have connected the 20th Nokia device today. Our company’s carrier is T-Mobile, I am connected via Vodafone ( former Arcor ). I have a flatrate for voice calls and the data volume is 50MB/month which is more than enough. I receive appr. 20 mails / day on my home account.
2 issues so far:
Desperately waiting for a Linux version. This is a showstopper for completely freeing our Domino servers from MS slavery
Autosync does not work with reverse proxy. No idea what is wrong, but I’m not the only one who is not able to setup a working reverse proxy to use with LNT.
We Have migrated our mobile fleet from Nokia Intellisync to Notes Traveler and are VERY happy with the results. Notes Traveler is a great product that is definitely undersold.
Only annoyance/requirements are:
a) Lack of support for Linux servers - we are a “Linux shop” and its a real problem to try and support an orphan Windows server.
b) Support for the new Nokia N900 would also be appreciated - this phone looks like an excellent fit for our mobility needs, and as an “Internet Tablet” style device it should fit the Traveler demographic perfectly.
Approx 50 phones currently deployed (all Nokia except one trial iPhone).
We started with Nokia e61/e61i phones, and are now standardising on Nokia e71 and e75 phones. Also now deploying Nokia N97 phones.
We also expect to significantly expand our fleet in the future due to the ease Traveler deployment and support.
We use an Australian carrier “Telstra” (GSM and HSDPA networks)
PS Traveler is an excellent product and its implementation has reversed a previous decision to replace Domino as our email solution…
I have it on a trial and so far it appears to be working OK.
What it really lacks is time of day auto-sync. I’d like to be able to disable sync during bedtime hours, or at least silence the alerts. This has always been a nice function of Blackberry.
We have been testing Lotus mobile solutions on Nokia 5530 (carrier Telcel). We first set Sametime 8.0.2 Mobile with no issues at all, since we installed Traveler on the device we have been unable to connect to the Sametime Server. We have found no issue with Traveler though, other than what I stated above.
One of my small customers offer Traveler to employees and currently has 2 iPhone users and 6 Nokia users.
One issue is causing some frustration. When adding some Nokia phones an error stating something like “initial sync has not yet completed” appears. We have been unable to find out why this happens and how it is resolved. The users are waiting for us to find out what is going on - or go to iPhone where this error is not happening.
