I’m developing an application that needs to periodically refresh some static information from an external source. I’d like to do this just once, when the user starts Notes up. As long as the user remains in Notes, even if it’s in the background, the data is good. Next time s/he starts Notes, it must go to the source and see if it’s changed.
Is there some Session variable, or notes.ini setting, that can tell me what “session” of Notes I’m in, or when this “session” started, something like that?

Cab you give some specifics about what the data is and how it is referenced?

It’s fairly simple - there are some text messages that get appended to a mail message. These can be changed periodically, and I need to retrieve them when changed. I don’t want to check every time I send a mail, just once a “session”

Don’t know if you can retrieve the information as to when a Notes client session was initiated. However, could you not use the database’s PostOpen event to check for that static text? Even though it can be circumvented, the event is triggered every time an application is launched. And since you do not want the comparison to happen at each launch of the application, you could always code to check for the text once every day or twice a day. Just a thought.

I’ve not done that, but you can put any shortcut in the start up folder. When you start Notes, you can have several databases open after you’ve logged on. Perhaps using that, you can trigger something to run only once when Notes starts…

Thanks, but that’s way to complex for what I want - I can’t start messing with user’s environments.
