Is There a Way to Figure Out if a Notes DB it being Referenced in any other Notes DBs?

Is There a Way to Figure Out if a Notes DB it being Referenced in any other Notes DBs without having to manually go into every Notes DB we have?

We currently do an awful lot of LEI replications to fill Notes DBs with data from our AS400 files. I am trying to find out where these replicated Notes Dbs are being used within other Notes Dbs.

If we can assume that you have access to all the servers and applications that might be referring to this one, then you could write LotusScript to scan the design of every database for mention of the replica IDs and filepaths of the databases in question. You can do this quickly with the NotesDBDirectory and NotesDXLExporter classes. Just export the complete design of every database (including profile documents!) and do a string search for the replica ID or filename. Create a report of all databases where one of the strings was found.

Since some databases might have hidden designs, I suggest you also search templates, where the unhidden design might be located.

This is not 100% guaranteed – the database filepath or replica ID might be stored in a regular document and looked up when needed, or might be calculated by a formula that doesn’t store the filename as a contiguous string of characters (@DbName[1] : “epop\” + Dept + “_Data.nsf”). But these are fairly unlikely.

maybe those last two are unlikely in your world Andre, but I regularly look-up database paths with @dblookup or or GetAllEntriesByKey.

To add to your first suggestion, making use of the catalog (domain or server) would help in searching the output (if you want a fairly complete reference of db usage)

I had not realized, until recently, that we could put the Synopsis of a database to a another database.

So I just manually blew thru all our Dbs, and put all their Synopsis’s to the same database. Then just searched the Synopsis Db for the names of the Dbs in question.

We have a relatively small number a Dbs, 187 total. So this solution was quicker for me then trying to figure out how to write a program that would gathered the information I needed.

Thanks,
