Is there a Policy setting to clear the internet address in all location documents for a group of users?

We are soon making changes in the internet address’s domain suffix of most users on our notes domain and would like to clear the internetaddress field from all of their location documents to make sure nobody is still using the old adddress after the change as their reply-to address.

So far we have found a quick way to do it using a post open script that we’d add in their mailfile template (select all Location documents from ($Locations) view of names.nsf, then clear the internetaddress field and save, repeat for each), which would be simple enough, but I was wondering if there was a Policy setting that could be used to do the same thing natively from the server?

I’m not familiar with Policies yet and even after glancing over them for a while I couldn’t find one…

See this post. It has a script you can run against your nab to modify the settings in the local location doc’s.

Thanks Shawn, it’s a bit more than I needed, but it actually gave me the basics I needed for the script I wanted to make. Good find.

My question was if there was a server-side Policy I could apply on a user to force his location doc’s internet address field blank though.

the client uses a process called Dynamic Config to read changes from the Domino Directory. Even if you clear out the internet address field on the client it will repopulate itself with the Internet Address from the user’s person doc in the Domino Directory. So, if you’re looking to change the user’s internet address to something else, just make the change in the person docs and the next time the user’s client is restarted and the user authenticates with their home mail server, the location docs will update themselves.

Paul,

Actually it’s simpler than that. I missunderstood what they wanted… They just need me to clear the location document field (make it blank) so that when they do change the address of all users, the client pulls the right address.

You can have a different internet address specified in your location document that will overrule the one from the person doc if it’s different. It only fetches the person document’s internet address if the location document one is empty.

I got that part nailed down already, I was just curious if there was a way to do it with Policies instead.

Thanks!

Well your statement is not true. If you change the person doc in the Domino Directory it will change in the location docs as well. Maybe they changed the way it worked in 6.5.4 which is what I am using. I just tested it and if I chnage my internet address in my person doc it also changes in my location docs when I authenticate with my home mail server. You should not have had to do anything but update the person docs.
