I know it’s possible to receive hotmail emails via outlook express. So I wonder whether I can use notes for hotmail. I do see the Http protocal on the new account dialog. Can it be used to receive mails? I’ve set up a notes mail account for my hotmail account. However, it can’t work!

Hi!
It should be possible to read your Hotmail through your Notes client if your Domino Mail server is running the POP3 (port 110)task (I assume you are already running SMTP to send the mail).
Then you need is information about you Hotmail server, access through your Firewall, and Account and maybe connection documents in your Personal address book.
This is theoretical, as I haven’t tried it myself (dont want to enable POP on my Domino server!)

Hi,
Yes, Paula is correct. You need to create two accounts in your personal address book under the Advanced category. One account is for POP protocol (incoming e-mails), and the other is for SMTP (outgoing) and the server tasks associated with POP3 and SMTP need to be running.
You will need information from Hotmail regarding the server names for POP3 and SMTP and the port numbers. Typically, companies use the same server name for both protocols and use the convention mail.domain.com, so first try mail.hotmail.com. They may use the default ports too, which are 110 for POP3 and 25 for SMTP. If it doesn’t work, check their website for help.

You create a new Account from your local Names.nsf

I’ve done that. But it can’t work. Anyone has succeeded in doing that?
Subject: I never have (never had a mail account other than my Notes one), but I know people who have.
Subject: Yes, I have
You should, as said, create POP3 account documents for receiving, and SMTP account documents for sending internet email. I’ve done that for several different accounts at two or three ISP’s, but not hotmail.
If it doesn’t work, there usually is extra information in your local log.nsf. Could you please see what’s wrong there?
Also, there’s a known problem with retrieving mail for multiple accounts (multiple account documents) at the same POP3 server. You should use the POP servers’ hostname in the first, and it’s ip-address in subsequent account documents. Search this forum for more information.

No it’s not possible I believe. You will get some info about that in this doc:
To make a long story short: hotmail doesn’t support POP3 but only HTTP, and right now I don’t think Notes support the HTTP mail client function.
Anyone knows better…please keep me posted
