Invoking a Web Service as a Consumer

I’d like to have a Domino 6 application be a consumer of an existing web service. I planned on having a Java agent invoke the web service through a class of the product Axis.

However, my customer has reservations about this design, particularly since there might be limitations on how many times the agent can run concurrently. Since the agent is event driven, it reportedly would be subject to the server setting ‘Run web agents concurrently’ or the variable '‘DominoAsynchronizeAgents’, although it’s not apparent what the limits are on each of these.

Might there be some other means by which Domino 6 application can invoke a web service as a consumer so that it would not be subject to any server limitations on agents?

Subject: Invoking a Web Service as a Consumer

You can create a Java program which is started automatically with the OS and performs the requested operations, saving data to Domino (through DIIOP or natively). Or you can trigger that Java program on certain times using OS’s built-in scheduling tasks.Both of the options are not dependent on Domino scheduling and load.

There are free and open source programs which can setup your Java program to be started as a Windows/Linux service.
