Invisible message box freezes DDE/Notes

Occasionally, I get stuck with this very irritating behaviour of DDE: Upon an attempt to open a design element, DDE/Notes beeps and freezes. The only way out of it I found so far was to kill Notes using Task Manager. While Notes is being killed, I can see for a short moment the reason why it was freezing: A message box trying to indicate an error or warning while opening said design element. Presumably that message box is modal, which would explain why Notes freezes. However, it never gives me an opportunity to hit that OK (or whatever) button to make it go away. I’ve tried various ways to access the message box, or put the focus on it, all to no avail. The message box never shows up until I kill Notes.

While I consider this a bug, assuming it has previously been reported and will get fixed eventually, I’d also love to know whether there is some workaround or anything one can do to get out of that situation w/o killing Notes.

Subject: “Show the Desktop” then select DDE?

I recall seeing this same bug a while back, but not recently, I’ve had to reinstall for a different reason. I was able to get the client back by minimizing all windows to the task bar and them immediately select DDE (perhaps it was Notes client first?), this would then present the offending window.Hope this might help your situation.
