Integrating and Authoring environment into the same DMGR cell as production

Problem/Query:

Building our new prod environment, and ideally, I’d like our authoring environment in the same cell and under the control of the same DMGR as the rest of the portal environment.

The cluster would be separate with separate databases.

Is there a technical limitation preventing me from doing this?
