Help, I have looked all over the forum and am unable to find a solution.
I have clients that are receiving Invalid password when trying to log into IM. We are currently on 6.5 client and server. Our Sametime server is 6.02 w/ST3.1
Have tried all the suggestions and a few people are able to log on, but the majority are not.
–Made sure that the NAB has the correct Sametime server name in everyones person doc.
–Made sure that everyone’s password is correct
–Made sure that Personal NAB has correct Sametime server name
A few people have the Sametime client on their pc and that works great.
Subject: RE: Instant Messaging and Invalid Passwords
I had the same problem here until I changed the IBM Lotus Instant Messaging server field in the location document, Server tab, to the fully qualified Internet name of our Sametime server. For example: server.mycompanydomain.com. Also, I used the Desktop settings policy to make the change on all of the installations–much easier than manually making the changes.

Thanks I tried changing the server field as you suggested with still no luck. I also changed the http authentication from multiserver to single server, restarted the server and still no luck.
It is just strange that a few people can log on with no problems and others can’t.
They should be able to use the same name that they’re using in the Connect client. However, try having them use their Notes name. For example, instead of “Terry Smith” have them use “Terry Smith/Westford/IBM” for their user name. See if that make a difference if they’re not already using it.
If your Sametime server has SSO enabled (and has the NRPC port open) then have your users change their preferences to use the “Log onto IBM Lotus Instant Messaging using single sign-on (SSO).” preference (File → Preferences → User preferences then the Instant Messaging tab). This will avoid the password prompt by logging on with a LTPA token instead.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve tried all sorts of ways to log them in. By just their name, using the notes name, short name. I tried changing the preference as you suggested. Still no luck.
Now what is really strange, is that I can go to anyone’s pc and log in under my name, just not theirs. That is the case for any of us that are able to log in. Is there some kind of permission / access that I am missing? The ones not able to log in also cannot get log in via the web, but I can (from their desk).
Subject: Instant Messaging and Invalid Passwords - ITS WORKING
Finally got it too work. Had to call IBM for support. He walked me through a few things. I had tried everything he said, but apparently not at the same time. This is what I did to get it to work.
In the location document, make sure that the IBM Sametime Server name is your FQIH name.
In the person document in the directory, Sametime server name should be loaded as CN=Servername/OU=OUname/O=OrganizationName.
I created a policy to update all the users desktop (server name to FQIH name) and then edited the directory. Had users close notes and get back in.
Hopefully this will help others that have the same problem.

Hi Dianna,
I am kind have same problem over here i upgraded our user clients to 6.5. Some people can longin to Instant Messenger and soem people cannot.
Like you said…location document in the Field IBM Lotus Instant Messaging server I try to put “CN=Servername/OU=OUname/O=OrganizationName” format but when you save it it goes to Servernaem/OUname/OrganizationName. Can you tell me what is FQIH means and what exactly you made it to work out.
I also found that, in some cases, the Instant Messanging tab of the location document, somehow had the incorrect port number. Ensure that Port 1533 is specified. Once I had that, the sametime server name specified (servername/org), and logged in using their username (first last), and http password, everything worked like a champ.
