I am not sure what risks you are looking for?

If the c drive does not have enough disk space, that would be a problem.

If you are going to change the virtual memory that could cause a risk as well.

Could you explain what you are hoping to learn?

I was curious to know why the default location comes up with c:\program files\lotus.

Thanks!!!

My option and not IBM’s:I would say IBM was trying to follow the Microsoft way to do things which would be installing program in the “Program Files”.

This default only exists here – on unix/linux/aix the default is different.

I hate the default location. Since I manage/develop for 13 different companies, and have 13 different instances of Notes 5.x/6.0.x and 6.5 running on one machine, I did my initial load to the old standby of C:\lotus\notes. This allows me the freedom of copying the data directory over and over to create my separate instances.

You have 13 instances of the server on one machine? do you them all concurrently?

Subject: RE: Installation on default location c:\program files\lotus

13 instances of the Notes client, not server. I routinely have up to 5 running concurrently. Doing development or administration.

Ok… but you saw the category or the posting ( not to be critical or anything).

Yes, but her post referenced the client loading to C:\Program Files. Not the server.

I would have to ask the Jury since we don’t know if Notes was truly meant as the client or just the slang name for the server. I just trusted the category from a server standpoint.

That is ok don’t sweat it. I just want to make sure someone else does not misunderstands and tries to install 13 instance of a server.
