Install problem 8.5.1: Error 1606. Could not access network location Description

We have a problem with installing LN Designer 8.5.1 that was downloaded on Monday. We tried to make the install on:

a) PC with LN 8.0.2 that was uninstalled first

b) PC with LN 8.5 SP1

In both cases the error message: “Error 1606. Could not access network location Description.” appeared at the beginning of InstallShield Wizard (during calculating of necessary space on the disk).

It is really unknown what “Description” means.

If anybody knows the solution, please help.

and we are using Czech locale setting. This is the first time when something like that appeared (installing 5.x, 6.x, 7.x, 8.x, 8.5 without any problem).

Hi,

there are two solutions to install 8.5.1 if the locales are not OK (error Error 1606).

1, Do NOT run setup.exe. Rather run .msi file directly.

2, In setup.ini (if you have it) edit line EnableLangDlg=N and change it to EnableLangDlg=Y. Then run setup.exe and choose English as a lenguage.

If you want to install Notes silently the parameter “EnableLangDlg” won’t help.Instead you can edit the section “[Languages]” in setup.ini to enable only English.

it’s for terminal server environment, but maybe the same problem. try to use a registry cleaner and search for lotus notes.

don’t forget to backup your PC before doing this.

Subject: It is not the case … it is the standard XP machine.

We tried to do everything what we found about the similar problem on the net.

We cleaned all old registries but without any success. The same problem on other PCs also.

We did not install 8.5.1 Designer on completely fresh Windows installation yet - without LN 8.x installed before.

I have the same problem, Lotus Notes/Designer on clean Windows 7. Try to insall to default location (//Program Files/IBM/)

Because the install wizard breaks earlier it is not possible to specify paths. Does it mean that you problem was not exactly the same (error 1606)?

Unfortunatelly I have to confirm error 1606 during installation. I have tried to install Designer 8.5.1 on XP SP3 Czech and on Win7 with Czech localization - both with the same unsuccessful result.

Similar problem here, after installing and launching Notes 8.5.1 GUI does not start. Log file is created with the following error:

java.lang.RuntimeException: Application “com.ibm.rcp.provisioning.application.ProvisioningApplication” could not be found in the registry.

Any ideas what that means, and how to correct this ?

The install problem with error 1606 means that it is not possible to install LN client at all. The process is breaked at the beginning of install wizard.

I had the same issue, I removed the workspace directory from the data directory and started Notes.

Are you trying to upgrade from a multiuser to single user installation?

Thanks for you reply but I am not sure if we understand. You mentioned to do some changes to notes.ini but there is only notes.ini file of current LN client installed na the PC (8.5 SP1). The install package of 8.5.1 does not have this file.

I tried what you suggested but without success as I expected.

Maybe I missed something?
