Hi Domino Friends,
We have a running Domino5 environment and we want to use iNotes to deploy a new site.
Of course we want to use iNotes6 because of the new features, the new look & feel and the better security options (secure logoff)
And now my Questions:
-
Is it possible to install an Domino6 (iNotes6) server next to the existing R5 environment?
-
or is it better to run iNotes 6 on a R5 server? (if this is possible?, I guess not)
-
What about replication of mailfiles between the R5 and the R6 environment? (the endusers are still using a R5 client)
-
Is the adressbook sync agent from the notes client still possible in a mixed environment?
Thanks a lot for any help on this
Vanessa
Subject: iNotes6 and Domino5
Vanessa,I think you will find some problems if you try to run iNotes with an R5 server. If you want the iNotes which is in R6, then you would want to run R6. If you replicate the database over to the R6 box then you need to use the template which is for that version of the server.
Mixed environments are possible, but you don’t want the database designs to move the other sercver – R6 design of dbs say on R6 and not R5 and vice versa.
You have the right thought process, but I feel you would not have a good service level for your users if you try to use the R5 databases on the R6 with new iNotes.
HTH Cheers… if you more specific questions relative to your environment feel free to use email in the profile.

Vanessa,
iNotes for Domino 6.0.x servers is exactly the same as in Domino 5.x servers. There are no differences.
iNotes doesn’t change at all until Domino 6.5. That version of the Domino server is now in beta.

I stand corrected! It looks like 6.0.2 will introduce some new iNotes features that are not in the 5.x versions.

There will be more iNotes changes in 6.5.
