iNotes5 Template problem on R6 Server

We have an interesting problem…we upgraded one of our servers to R6, and these users are heavy iNotes users. They are still using the R5 iNotes template. When trying to load their mail file, they do not get prompted for a login and the display offers a few lines of the mail file, but then errs and stops. Some of the errors we see are “h_ClientBrowser is undefined” and “haiku is undefined” and also “Object Expected”. However, if the user then goes to the address book, it will prompt for a login and display the directory. The users can then go to their iNotes file and access their email with no problems. All users are using IE6.

Any ideas? We may upgrade a client or two to R6 to see what that does, but we’re really trying to avoid doing that for everyone at the moment.

Thanks,

Steve

If you can, set Server / Ports / Internet Ports / Web / Anonymous: No

This way the password prompt will come before the database is opened.

Subject: iNotes “Object expected” error on R6 Server - solution

Thanks, Bruce. As my problem was similar to the original post, in that iNotes started to open the mail file and failed, I followed your suggestion to force authentication before opening the mail file. It worked!

Which was a major relief for me, as I thought I’d have to rename the physical server etc to match the Domino server name, as per the Admin Help. It may be poor practise, but because I’ve moved our Domino servers from box to box (as we’ve upgraded etc), the physical servers do not match the Domino server name.

I’ve always thought of this as being one of the beauties of Domino, in that it is a platform that sits on top of a physical server, rather than being enmeshed in the box.

Anyway, that’s beside the point, which is that I’ve got iNotes up and running thanks to your post. I’m sure your suggestion will help others faced with similar problems.
