iNotes ui=portal on 8.5.1 very space wasteful

We have been using the “&ui=portal” on iNotes for our portal. We have clients in mailfiles based on 6.5x, 7.x and 8.x and that option has worked well for us. But with 8.5.1 (probably 8.5 as well). The ui=portal option has really degraded.

Lets specify the details:

  • 8.5.1 based mailfile on a 8.5.1 server

  • using a URL like:

http://server.somedomain.com/mail/mailfile.nsf/inotes/mail/?OpenDocument&ui=portal

Problems:

  • useless “Mail” Tab. It adds no value to the screen, since you can’t change areas or open more tabs. In our case this is contained in a Tabbed interface already that has tabs for Mail, Calendar, To Do, and others.

  • Large wasted empty space, above the view data and action buttons but below the banner bar. Why waste that space?

  • Font and padding increases and view row data. Could show a lot more data.

Compared to version 8 this is definitely a step backwards for companies using the ui=portal option. We get less view data on the screen, and confuse the users with unneeded static tabs.

Anything we can customize to improve this?

Plans to fix these unneeded changes?

Subject: wasted space

I have to agree with you about the wasted space above the action bar and below the header - what’s the point in that??

Apart from that I think the 8.5 webmail (not using the portal as such here) is a vast improvement over 8 - no more annoying popups which don’t work if users who don’t know start blocking things. And of course the better support for the newer web browsers

I agree. The interface for iNotes 8.5.1 is great and keeps improving.

But when using the ui=portal option on the URLs, the 8.5.1 version doesn’t make sense. The point of that option is to trim it down to the bare minimum. This worked so well in 6.5.x, 7.x and even 8.x. Don’t understand why they didn’t continue that.
