on most other email programs I have, when an email is sent or forwarded an arrow will appear to the left of the email indicating the action taken. In my lotus notes, it does not do that. Is there anyway to correct this?

In R6 it does – have you upgraded to the correct template for the version of Notes running on the server/client?
You get a green arrow pointing to the left, on a message you replied to. And a blue arrow pointing to the right, on a message you forwarded.

hmmm. I’m on Notes Version 6. How would I know I have upgraded to the correct template?

this feature is available from the 6.03 release.
After you have installed the R6.03 client, you must update the mail database with the new mail template
Look in the help how to refresh a db design, or use the convert task on the server
