Increase in Mail File Corruption with Domino 7?

Has anyone (else) seen an increase in mail files with database corruption following an upgrade to Domino 7?

We’re running a pretty heavily loaded environment on Windows 2003 servers. The problems seem most prevalent on very large mail files.

Thanks,

It may not be much help to you, but we did not see any increase in corruptions after upgrading here. We’re running the same platform (Domino 7.02 on Win 2003 servers), and have some pretty big mail files: plenty over 2GB. Our two most heavily loaded servers have 430 and 450 users respectively. We also have transaction logging turned on.

Whats the type of corruption? Does the corruption always happen at the same time? What is running around that same time? Is it always the same databases? Are you running Fixup as a scheduled task (if so don’t). Does the database have unread marks, soft deletions, what agents? Does it happen during a heavy load? (not an exhaustive list).

If it is after a migration it could be residual corruption from the previous release that was never caught.

The catch process for removing corruption (and most intensive). Make sure you have a backup before you start.

FIXUP -I

UPDALL -R

COMPACT -C

Finally after that create a new replica from that database.

I should point out that this nearly always removes all corruption from a database. It rarely solves the cause of the corruption though.

Corruption issues are icky because you need (nearly always) a reproducible scenario to be able to correctly diagnose them.

Simon,Why do you advise against running fixup as a scheduled task? We run it weekly on most of our servers, but I’m curious if there is a potential problem that I’m not aware of.
