Hi Lotus/Domino Gurus,
Can we create duplicate folders same as standard folders like ($Inbox), ($Sent), ($Drafts) etc? How does that impact mail database?
Many thanks in advance.

Yes, you can. But don’t. It’s a really bad idea.
The behavior of the Notes client, Domino server, and possibly many apps that assume that only one of each of those folders exist… will be unpredictable. That’s clear because accidentally duplicated $Inbox folders have been the root cause of many people’s really strange problems over the years!

BTW: $Sent is not a folder. It’s a view. I think $Drafts is too, but I’m too lazy to look it up at the moment. Duplicating those views is probably not as bad an idea as duplicating $Inbox is, but I still would not recommend it.

Hi Rich,
Many thanks for quick reply.
By duplicating folders what I meant was rename the folder ($Inbox) to another name and transfer the files from Inbox to newly renamed folder.
Will it still have an impact?
Many thanks in advance.

Yes, you can do that. But be aware that after you rename ($Inbox) the mail file will but before you create the new ($Inbox), there will be no inbox! You can make it a very brief time, but if a mail message arrives during that time there will be nowhere for the router to put it. It will just be in the All Documents view. If you want to avoid that, you can issue a ‘tell router quit’ command on the server before you rename the folder, and then ‘load router’ after you create the new one.
BTW: I would also probably recommend using ‘refresh design’ process to create the new inbox, rather than doing it manually.
