Subject: IMAP and performance
Hilda, I found a similar behaviour running Domino R6.5.1 on Intel. We were having problems with server performance and thought that this may be a factor. The CPU utilization for IMAP was sometimes as high as 45-55%. However, ending this task did not increase performance nor did starting this task negatively affect the already poor performance. The problem on our system revolved around memory management and hub server replication. Just because the task appears to be utilizing excess CPU does not mean that it is negatively impacting performance. This may have to do with the number of connection threads that IMAP spawns and maintains for the user’s access. I looked to see if in the Server Configuration or Server Document if a place existed where I could specify a max number of threads. I never found such a field. I imagine it may be controlled through Server Notes.ini entries. I am sorry that I can’t provide you with more info but I stopped research this issue because it wasn’t the culprit in our case. Please share your research if you find out the answer to this question.
Thanks,
Kevin
