Are there any characters that cannot be used in a notes DN? If so, what are they?
Thanks in advance.

what characters are you planning on using that may be questionable?

Actually, one came in accidentally. I had one like this:“CN=<firstname…”
‘<’ got in, and there were no problems until we ran our announcements email, and that errored out. I wanted to prevent this from happening again.

well of all of the spec. characters available I have used only # and $ in group and mail-in database names and - and _ in group, mail-in db and user common names. Other than that I would avoid all other spec characters and I would reccommend not using ANY special characters (including spaces and underscores) in certifiers or in domain names.
other than that I would avoid all others.

In the “Domino Directory FAQ” (google it) you’ll see a table of nasty character sequences in names and how to correctly express them as either Notes or LDAP DNs.
