IIS & Domino: Default homepage Notes database

Hello,

Is this possible, when using IIS and Domino on the same box, to use a notes database as the “homepage”?

For example, I’d like http://mydomain.com to display a Notes db (.nsf) instead of a html file within IIS.

I took a look at that TechNote #1088487… but that doesn’t work for me. (I’m using Domino 6.5.1/IIS 6.0/Windows 2003)

I also tried this suggestion… but it doesn’t work either:

I can’t believe there’s no way to achieve this?

Can someone help?

Thanks!

Pascal

I’ve wrestled with this one in the past and the easiest solution is the most basic…

Simply create an HTML file that simply redirects visitors imediately to the Domino resource. Then configure IIS to point to that HTML as the default page. It’s really really easy. If you don’t know how to redirect in HTML simply Google it…there are hundreds of sites with code/tutorials.

Thanks for your quick answer!

I thought about doing what you suggested… however I’m afraid that Google (and other search engines) might not like that. I’ve always been told that redirection on the homepage are penalized by Google (and I want my Web Site to be ranked well in Google). Also, that redirection would false our stats (the user would access two pages instead of only one).

By looking at IIS, I finally found that I could use "A redirection to a URL

" with this box checked:

“A directory below URL entered”

And it’s working.

However, if I type “http://www.mydomain.com”… I am redirected to “http://www.mydomain.com/Test.nsf” (This is working fine, but the address shown include the redirection path).

I’d like to “see” Test.nsf… but keep the URL “http://www.mydomain.com” only.

Thanks!

Very good points all around. I use WebTrends and also had to deal with “double” stats so I feel your pain. I didn’t know about the browser not liking homepage redirects so I’ll keep that in mind…

Unfortunately, I’m not able to help you beyond this but if you figure out how to do that masking of Domino syntax I’d love to know how… Sorry and good luck.

One other thing…

In the past I have been known to actually create a legitimate HTML homepage and point IIS to it then all the links off of that homepage would point to Domino pages. That worked really well for me. Just a thought.

Thanks for your suggestion… but that won’t apply to me… The domino page already exist… and is quite complex.I won’t be able to make a IIS page for it.

Hello Radio Head,

In case you might care, by doing the following:

It solved my “default notes database homepage” problem at the same time!
