There is this idea STC-I-150 that was set to "shipped". Can anyone point me to the location where the user can delete specific chat history? I could not find anything about it in the change logs for any version...
In Sametime 12.0.2 users can delete individual chat messages
I only found a remark about this feature in the HCL Sametime and HCL Sametime Premium 12.0.2 Release Notes for Web and mobile chat...
Web and Mobile chat enhancements
- The Sametime emoji palette is now consistent across Sametime clients.
- Reactions can be added to chat messages.
- Chat messages can be deleted if the administrator allows.
- Group chat members can be removed from the group by any member of the group chat.
Will this feature also be available for standalone and embedded Sametime client?
Hi Torsten,
The idea STC-I-150 was merged with the feature to support user chat deletion, which is why it was marked "shipped". This feature allows a user to delete chats they sent and is reflected across all users persistent chat histories. The chat still exists in the chat logging database server for administrators to manage or delete. If local chat transcripts are enabled, this may also reflect what exactly the client sees for chat history. We are working on improving this behavior between the chat history on the server vs the local chat transcript and to provide documentation on how an administrator can manage and delete server-side chats. If needed, open a support case and we can provide instructions.
With persistent chat disabled, chat history from a user perspective is achieved by enabling local chat transcripts. Deleting chat histories under this model only affects the local user’s chat history view. The chat history is not removed from the receiver’s client if they have local chat transcripts enabled. If chat logging on the server is enabled under this model, that data is available only to administrators and not reflected from the clients.
Concerning "delete specific chat history" in STC-I-150, is the request to provide a user the ability to request server-side chat history deletions or from their personal (local) chat view? As a note, with persistent chat the local chat transcripts format changed which can prevent local chat histories from being deleted and the server is providing the primary chat history. The comments on this idea were focused on server side chat histories which may be the reason the feature request was misunderstood.
Deletions and Reactions in 12.0.2 are fully supported on web and mobile clients. Notes 14 can be enabled to view the reactions by adding this parameter to the plugin_customization.ini or pushing it via a managed-settings.xml policy:
com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.chatwindow.conversation/isChatReactionPrefEnabled=true
Future Notes and Sametime Connect versions are assessing the ability to perform a deletion and reaction.
Thanks,
Trevor
The feature that my customer expects is the deletion of chats from the mongo db by the user.
I know everything about the local chat history (stored in mailfile or in windows folder) but the request is about the server history.
As you probably know the other "company chat tools" like Cisco Jabber and Microsoft Teams as well as personal chat tools like "WhatsApp" already support deleting stuff that the user sent and wants to be removed from history. Only in Sametime the mistake of sending something to the wrong person or pasting confidential information cannot be corrected by the user...
As for that I am inpatiently waiting for this feature to be implemented in Sametime Embedded as well as in all other available sametime clients.
Thank you for clarifying. I'll consider removing this idea from the delete chat feature provided for web and mobile clients in 12.0.2 or creating a new one. Creating a feature to request (by the user) the chat be deleted from the server-side chat history immediately or after the "undo" time has expired. A global setting to enable "hard deletions" will be evaluated when this is a preferred preference.
An administrator can currently remove any chats from the server, but it's a manual task that can be improved or set as a default when deletions are performed.
Thank you very much. Now only one question is open:
Can you describe how the implemented feature works, where it is documented and where users can find it? That would be great because other than the sentence "Chat messages can be deleted if the administrator allows." in the release notes I could not find any documentation about the feature anywhere.
Is a setting in the policies, you can see it in the new Admin UI
