I have two guinea pig users on client v9.0.1, one on Win 7 x32 and the other on Win 7 x64. Both have experienced multiple crashes of the client triggering NSD while doing a variety of different things (I’ve yet to find commonality. One was pasting text, another time saving a doc, other time typing text, etc).
In the Windows Application log an “Information” event is logged with Event ID “0” and the “Source” listed as “IBM Java”. The description says “The parameter is incorrect”. I’ve looked at the Notes crash log stuff and found the fatal threads, but I’m unable to derive any useful information from what I’m seeing there.
Both clients were upgraded to 9.0.1 in place from very stable 8.5.3 FP4 installs. The server is 9.0.1 FP1. Thinking of rolling back to 8.5.3 until I can get a handle on this, because the crashes are 1-3 times a day, and the users are not happy.
Subject: Please raise service request for your crashes
The Notes 9.01 product should not be crashing, we strongly believe that Notes 9 and the 9.01 are major improvements on 8.5.3. For this reason we would like to make sure you can successfully run and deploy.
So please raise a pmr so that the problems maybe assessed.
Subject: Repeated crashes in 9.0.1 FP2 Standard Client
This is an update to my original post. I opened a PMR with IBM two weeks ago. We are no closer to identifying the source of the problem despite my sending crash dump data collection files to IBM support every time Notes crashes.
There is seemingly no correlation between what the users are doing and these crashes, and IBM has not pointed at anything tangible. I’ve had it crash while Notes wasn’t even the active app, and other times while working in it. Video/audio drivers for the PCs have been fully updated; made no difference. The crashes occur on both Win 7 Pro x64 and x86 systems of different vintages that have zero hardware items in common. All are Dell Optiplex corporate machines.
I’ve frozen updating my remaining users from 8.5.3 to 9.0.1 and will roll back the couple I have on 9.0.1 to 8.5.3. They simply don’t want to deal with crashes a couple of times a day when 8.5.3 could be left running 24/7 for days at a time.
I opened a PMR and have been supplying crash post mortem files to IBM. I had two crashes myself of this type yesterday within 10 minutes of each other. When one of them happened I didn’t even have the Notes client window active and was working in Firefox when it crashed and NSD popped up.
No progress on the source of the crash yet from IBM.
