I still use Approach v9. It’s great application but I can’ sent emails to my contacts from the program (at less I don;t know how).
I would like to be able to sent email from my approach. Should I move up and buy What? Notes or?
I only need simple, friendly dbase contact like Approach (that I am in love with), but be able to sent emails from it as well. Nothing fancy or COMPLICATED.
Sorry for my complete ignorance and thanks in advance.
Subject: No easy Answer.
I am doing Notes for something like 15 years now - and it is great. However, from all what I have seen from Approach, it is no simple match, I would even go further, wherever you go from Approach, most likely you will have to live with quite some learning curve.
To me - as for many others - Notes was the right decission, and is an excellent product. It is not relational, but If you don’t have too many data sets it does nicely in solving the same general problems as relational databases. And it does even better in solving some site problems - mail is just one of them, Replication, full text search would be some others.
Comming from Approach, and not being too much in a hurry, I would suggest to have a look at XPages in Doimino Designer (there beginning from the current 8.5. relase - there is free trial downloads). It is actually a web technology, which will be available for the native Client (later this year? - I think I did read Q3 somewhere), too (Version 8.5.1 http://www.lotusnotebook.com/lotusnotebook.nsf/d6plinks/DLEY-7NELP2). - There is tutorials for getting started in the web.
