We have a problem where inline images are displayed as [image] rather than you seeing the image. Also tabulated text is all over the place often in narrow long columns. We have the following setup:
(1)R6.03 mail server
(2)R6.03 smtp server
(3)R4.6.7a mail server
(1) and (2) are a cluster
The Domino Directory is R6.03
If I receive an internet mail it comes in on (2) and the directory points it to my mail file on (1). My client is R6.03 and the directory says “Keep in senders format”. There is no replica on (3) of my mailbox.
(2) and (3) are running Network Associates antivirus (2) is 5.3 and (3) is 5.1
This can be fixed in the Mail Configuration Document for the server which sends the message.
Click on the MIME tab
Under the MIME tab there will be another tab called CONVERSION OPTIONS, click on it.
Under this tab there will be another tab called OUTBOUND
Make sure that the field called MESSAGE CONTENT reads “from Notes to Plain Text and HTML”
5.Go back to the main BASICS tab for the actual Configuration Document. You will find a field called “International MIME settings for this document”. Make sure that you tick this field.
Save the document.
You will now need to restart the mail router. This can be done through the following process.
Gain access to the Lotus Domino Server Console
Type the following command: Tell router quit
Wait until the console says that the router has shut down
Type the following command: Load Router
You can now send another test email and you should find that it now works correctly.
The messages come from the internet. Do not know the senders mail system. But in one case I called them, they use LINUX POP3 and SMTP. the message they send is HTML.
The tables are sent as fixed size. But when I read the message the tables are width is 1 char. Any image is replaced with [IMAGE] in the color red.
We do not run a virus scan, Meseage come directly to the Domino server. Same message sent to my YAHOO and HotMail account looks fine.
Okay, new twist, it is just the main mail server that does the Mime to CD conversion, if I set a users mail to be on the SMTP box then all is well, it seems that the mail.box on the main server is erroneously converting. The main server is not running AV at all. The mail box is R6 template with ODS43. Any ideas?
Jeff,I think you do not understand the thread. The REAL problem is with mail messages from the Internet with Tables in them. They lose the tables settings for size when the message is made into a CD message (Notes) even if the user setting is to keep the message in the sender’s format.
Any news to this ? I have this on some clients with rather old mailboxes converted to 6.5.3 format. When i open the same mail on a different client with a different user, the inline images are displayd correctly.

Hi,This seems to be an ongoing issue that people keep running into. I have two client sites experiencing it, one site on Domino/Notes 6.5.2 and the other on 6.5.4. We’ve checked the Person docs for Keep in Senders…; and the workaround in the Location doc to change the browser to Notes or Notes with IE; and configuring the proxy settings in the Location doc (including testing with bypassing the proxy server); and checking the anti-virus software running on Domino.
It would be great if someone could come up with the answer to this one as it’s one of those issues that really bugs the users.
Subject: HTML mail with images and tables badly displayed
Something is forcing MIME to CD conversion on your MIME messages (I know you have “Keep in sender’s format”). Prove this by attempting to look at the raw MIME source of a sample message (View / Show / Page Source) - this will be greyed out because there is no MIME source to look at.
Likely culprit is your virus scanner.
We had this issue a long while back when first starting to use native MIME in R5. Can’t remember what virus scanner it was but it could only check CD messages and so the hook that grabbed the messages in mail.box forced a MIME to CD conversion on every MIME message received regardless of the users’ preferences.
Our current virus checker preserves the native MIME of all MIME messages (even when quarantining viruses which is useful in some cases where the MIME is deliberately malformed).
You could try looking for settings in the virus scanner to see whether it has the option to preserve MIME.
