I have been trying to find some documentation on the upgrade procedure for Domino. I have a Server running SLES 8 with Domino 6.0.1, and would like to upgrade to 6.5.1. However, although I have raised a ticket with Lotus, there appears to be no documented procedure for upgrading a Linux Server from 6.0.1 to 6.5.1. Plenty on the migration from 4.x & 5.x, but I’m already that far.
With NT 4 Server, the upgrade can be painful in that a number of dll, .exe files fail the checksum and have to be renamed to .old and the upgrade repeated. Having done this several times now i know, and it is the procedure advised by Lotus Tech Support at 2am one morning…so i recall :+)
So if anyone knows what to do when it comes to Linux I’d be much obliged.

Wow, that’s a lot of trouble to go to, unless you’re talking about running the patch installer (e.g., to get from 6.0.2 CF2 to 6.0.3). In that case, you may need to do some renaming, but I never bother.
Instead, for all environments I’ve worked in (Win32, OS/2, Linux and AIX), I simply run the full installer. Nice, clean install, and avoids all the headaches of a incremental installer.

hi, guys! new to linux and upgrading servers. so to upgrade to the latest release of 6.5 (i.e. 6.5.x) from 6.0, i simply run the full install from scratch, nothing odd after that? i’m running redhat linux 8.0…

Hi Rod,
I upgraded on of our servers from 6.0.1 to 6.5 by simple runnig the “./install” out of the server package. The install script did the rest by asking all relevant data (because it was a partitioned server).
If your server ist started by a script which redirects all the console output to a file you have to start it manually after the upgrade because it will ask you if you want to replace the design of names.nsf and you have to type in “yes” which is not possible when console output is redirected (so server start would hang).

Many thanks for your help. Lotus came back and advised, try it! So I did, all went really well with no problems.
As for incrementals, yep they are a pain when it comes to renaming dlls etc. I also encountered the same with a full blown 6.5.1 over the top of a 5.0.12!
