I’ve read the help doc, Using Unicode to add special characters to documents. However still couldn’t find Compose sequence for Windows for TM or R in a circle.
Subject: how to type in special symbols, e.g. TM or R in a circle, etc. in a documet?
Hi, I just type in TM then select and use ‘Superscript’.

how about R in a circle?

ALT + 0174
Subject: sorry, I still couldn’t get R in a circle into a documet
Where can I locate the Lotus notes table of symbols?
Subject: RE: sorry, I still couldn’t get R in a circle into a documet
It’s not Lotus Notes specific; Standard ASCII table (google it). When you know its code, you can type any symbol by:
-
press and hold “ALT”
-
type the code on your numeric keypad (with NumLock on)
-
release ALT

That VERY much depends on what font you happen to be typing in … i.e. It’s front specific.
Edit : Humm … it seems that the extended codes are also font specific…I thought they were supposed to be neutral
e.g.
Arial Alt 155 + AltTM : s™
Windings Alt 155 + AltTM : ¢™
Subject: R in a circle is not in ASCII table
I’ve checked ASCII table by http://www.lookuptables.com/.R in a circle is not in the table, even extended ASCII codes.
I’ve tried your way, ALT+codes. Some work, some not.
It seems Notes didn’t use the standard.

See charmap.exe on your windows PC
Subject: RE: R in a circle is not in ASCII table
yes, I see ®, when I copy it, then paste into Notes document, it becomes ‘-’ somehow.
Subject: RE: R in a circle is not in ASCII table
Make sure the font is the same - will work fine, both by copy or by ALT+code.

Look for the help document called Special characters listed by extended compose sequence
Extended compose sequence for Windows and Macintosh
Character
Name of character
Compose sequence for Windows
Keyboard shortcut for the Macintosh
0-169
®
Registered
R+O, or R+0, or r+0
OPTION+R
So use ro … ®
I don’t see a sequence in there for the TM symbol. But TM works … ™
Edit : It seems that these characters are font specific. If you are still not seeing them, try switching to Arial or Helvetica.
Subject: I know why it doesn’t work for me
I don’t see the help document like you posted. - Registered R+O, or R+0, or r+0 OPTION+R 0-169
It shows a ‘-’ for 0-169. Also it didn’t show the symbol when I followed the compose sequence.
I found I don’t have ‘Monotype WorldType’ font for the default fonts. Should I install Unicode fonts on my system per the help doc?
Subject: I’ve figured it out why I couldn’t see ®
In my Windows XP, Control Panel → Regional and Language Options → Advanced → Select a language to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs you want to use: I set Chinese(PRC) before. After changed to English (Canada), I can see ®.
How can I set Chinese and see ®?
