How to split Data directory on a Domino server

Hi,

Our Domino server runs almost out of disk space.

We have a lot of available space elsewhere on our Novell Network.

I suppose I can move the whole data directory to a network drive and modify the ‘Notes Data’ parameter in the notes.ini on the server?

Other question: this transfer should mean the interruption of the use of the server; to avoid this: is it possible to ‘split’ the data directory?:

one part of the databases would remain on the Domino server’s disk and another part would go on the network drive.

Is it possible to specify multiple data directories for the server (multiple ‘Notes data’ parameters in the notes.ini on the server)?

Otherwise, I think it’s possible to move databases and use a file mapping for eached moved database:

for example, to move the database “sample.nsf” to the network drive:

  • copy (by the Windows Explorer) the database “sample.nsf” to the network drive

  • replace on the server the content of the sample.nsf file by one line containing the path of the database on the network drive.

But in this case, where should go the index files related to the database?

Thank you for your help,

Hi,

I think your best option would be to use directory links, you can have a look at the admin help about it. It allows you for instance to move all your files contained in a specific folder to another directory (i.e.: the mail folder).

Good Luck

Hi Marc,

Thank you for your fast and useful answer.

I knew this database link feature but didn’t know where to find this feature in the Administrator Help.

I shall then use database links and directory links…

A last question about it: related to full-text indexed databases:

I suppose that the associated index subdirectories and files have to remain on the domino server and don’t have to be moved together with the .nsf file(s)?

Thank you by advance,

You have to move the dbs including the FT’s to the new direcory.

You are welcome
