I’m not sure what to look for so I don’t know if this has been addressed. Bear with me, my focus is development and I haven’t really done admin work since R4.6. I have a 6.5 domino server with the domain of “Companyname”. When it was initially set up, they thought they were going to migrate to notes mail but have since decided to use exchange. Currently, mail is being hosted outside the company. I have an application that sends email notifications. These notifications go to the users notes mail file. I need these notifications to go to their hosted email “username@companyname.com”. If I edit the person doc to point to internet mail and forwarding mail to “username@companyname.com” then it gets caught in a forwarding loop because domino is seeing the “@companyname.com” as itself. If I set the forwarding address to user@theirpersonalISPemail.com (not their work email) it will work, but I need it to go to their company email not their personal email. How do I get notes/domino to NOT try and deliver the workaddress email to itself but to send it on to their hosted email server? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Will this bypass notes seeing registered users as notes mail users? With the current config I can send email out to the WWW from notes mail but anything with the @companyname.com will go to their notes mail, unless I change it to go to their internet company mail - which results in that problem of max hops exceeded.

I will make an assumption here that you are using a Global Domain to identify the server as the mail handler for the domain @CompanyName.com.
My most obvious question is do you need to identify the server as the mail handler for @CompanyName.com. If not then change the Global Domain, or better still, remove it completely and then all mail for @CompanyName.com should be routed to the internet and the Exchange server should pick it up.
Alternatively, look at the Exchange Connector For Notes (I know it’s old technology, but it still works). This will allow you to configure a domain for Exchange Mail and have all mail sent to the mail box for Exchange, normally Exchange.box, which the connector will poll to pick up mail for itself. There are some potential issues with this approach, but it will allow the mail to be correctly routed, and even better never leave your internal infrastructure.
