How to run Domino task out of Domino server memory

I understand that when domino server starts on windows platform, it is allocated certain resources in which all the domino tasks run. In this situation when one of the task is overloaded, it affects the entire domino performance.

I would like to take namgr & nhttp tasks out of domino servertasks, and load them from the command prompt with domino server running simultaneously without these tasks. This way, if domino is busy indexing one database (we have about 12+GB dBs), http can be servicing requests to other databases without getting affected by domino performance.

Is this possible? (we have floated idea of running IIS as front end web server, but need to know if we can run domino tasks seperately outside of domino server).

No can do (just try it).

Even if you could I doubt it would be very helpful: indexing is heavy disk I/O-related and the performance penalty is most likely I/O contention.

You may want to try to optimize you I/O paths to those databases (if you haven’t already done that).

cheers,

Bram

Thanks for the response Bram.IIS set as front-end web engine has proved to increase the web access to other Domino databases that are not affected by Domino’s other tasks. So was wondering if seperating http from Domino’s “power” could help in any performance gain.
