How to replace a domino server but keep the same name?

Hi There

i’ve a domino server namend “server1” running on windows2003 32bit, domino version is 8.5.1 FP1. The Windows OS makes big trouble so i want to reinstall it.

These Servers run on a virtual environment.

  • So i want to Setup Windows on a new virtual machine, windows 2008 r2 64bit and name it “server2”, since i want minimal downtime of “server1”

question is, what to do next?

can i just create a domino server “server2”, join it into the notes domain, shutdown to old “server1” and rename server2 into “server1”?

anyone got the exact steps how to replace an existing server with a new one keeping the same servername?

thanks!

kind regards

Tibor

Renaming your Domino Server is easy. How do you now update your client workstations to that effect? Check out http://www.binarytree.com/products/cmtdo.aspx for a solution on renaming the server and updating your client workstation references to the old server1 to be replaced with server2 while also removing server1.

what i should do:install domino on server2 in the exact folders as server1

copy names.nsf, notes.ini,*Id files from server1 to server2

copy data from server1 to server2

launch server2

if this works, modify ip address or DNS

Good Luck,
