How to Journal to local SMTP Server instead of Journal DB?

Hello,

On a single physical server I have Domino installed with SMTP task disabled and not running. On the same physical server I have a simple smtp server accepting email on port 25. I would like to setup Journaling so that it will send copies of email to the SMTP server. I was following steps online titled “Setting up Lotus Domino to send journal reports”. These steps are geared towards using the Content Collector SMTP Connector so I am wondering if all these steps are required. The link to these steps are here:

That link has other links to sub topics. I did the steps in the subtopic “Setting up a Journal rule for Lotus Domino” at the following link but this still does not work.

Servername: TestSvr

Server FQDN: TestSvr.local

SMTP Server Port: 25

Thank you

Subject: some of the other steps necessary

similar to what is being mentioned in that doc link

Never done it, so suggesting some things to try:

Configure journaling to a mail in database - but use an internet address supported by your smtp server as the target address.

Enable SMTP Routing on the Domino server. Basics tab of configuration document

You may be running into strangeness because non domino smtp server is on the same server, and Domino thinks it’s a local address it’s responsible for.
So you might need to make an internet domain up (myjournalserver.server.com), make your smtp server responsible for it and then configure a foreign smtp domain document that will route to that host for that domain, and make your - journal address - journal@myjournalserver.server.com

Subject: Try using a Foreign SMTP Domain

You can force messages destined for a specfic internet Domain to a specific IP address with the use of a Foreign SMTP Domain document.

Create a Foreign SMTP Domai document.

Go to the Routing tab,

Messages Addressed to:

Internet Domain: internet domain.com

Should be Routed to:

Internet host: x.x.x.x

Also, make sure the Configuration document on the server, under the ROUTER/SMTP tab → Basics tab

SMTP used when sending messages outside of the local internet domain: Enabled
