How to hide avoide not to read attachements

Hi,

our main problem is that we use huge - log - files as attachements.

The attached Log files to Rich Text are so huge, and when somebody tries to open the document in question, it is very slow.

There is too heavy traffic in network.

1, Is it possible to hide the attachements for a Rich Text file? Because that could solve this traffic problem.

OR

2, Can we do something programatically to solve this problem? I mean show up the rich text without attachements etc. (But this is a huge workaround :), and we would like to avoide it)

(We know that replication without attachements is possible, but that is workaround, too  )

Opening up a document shouldn’t cause any attachments to be transferred over the network, unless maybe you’re running Symantec Antivirus? If Lotus Notes Auto-Protect is enabled, SAV will download all attachments and virus-scan them every time you open a document.

I hav a solution but it requires a huge workaround.Just detach the attachment from a document and create a document in the attachment database (This is a new database that need to be created.) and attach the attachment in that document and save the document.Stamp the Unid of the attachment document in the main document , Create the links to the attachment in a richtext field and save that document too.

Do this for all the document in the database. This will reduce the database size and improve the performance as well and reduce the time of opening the document.

Maybe you can replace attachments by a doclink to another DB containing only atts… however this will cause problems with FullText search in your main DB.

You can also compress these atts… since they are logs (txt files) they can be easily compressed. Check www.notes-compression.com, there are several compression tools and a tool to index zip files so you won’t have problems with FTSearch.
