Hi all
Can anybody tell me how to generate unique Random numbers using lotus script.
Consider the eg.
I have to generate unique random numbers between 1 to 15(inclusive).
i want the number to be displayed randomly for eg as follows.
8 2 11 3 12 7 1 14 6 9 15 5 10 13 4 etc.
The main point to note is no repeating numbers should be generated. i tried using the lotus script Rnd() function and formula language @Random function. but of no use it still repeats atleast one number.
anybody have any idea on how to achieve it. Help on this is much appreciated.
Thanks & Regards
JV

To generate a random number between any two numbers x and y, use the formula( y - x )*@Random + x
Clearly mentioned in the Designer Help

Any random generator function is going to repeat numbers. It’s why ite is called random.
To get unique numbers, just generate a number, store it in an array, generate the next number, check the array, if it exists, generate another number.

You don’t need random numbers, you need a random sequence of a set of values (1 to 15).
Create a multi-value field (Unselected) with the values you need e.g. 1:2:3:…:15
Generate a random number between 1 and the number of elements un Unselected
Move the element from that position into another multi-value variable (Selected) and remove it from Unselected
Repeat until Unselected is empty.
