Millions, if you send to a group that has that many members (by including other large groups).

What are you trying to do, exactly?

Yes, it is possible to have Domino send 25,000 messages. The server, itself, is built to withstand higher loads than that.

The speed at which the messages can be delivered is usually constricted by other factors. Consider these factors:

  • Are the messages being delivered internally? Shouldn’t be a problem if you have the server infrastructure to hold 25,000 users.

  • Are these messages being delivered directly to the recipient’s mail exchanger or are you routing through an outbound gateway, perhaps at your ISP? Bombarding your ISP’s mail gateway without notice may cause them to be upset. If you are delivering directly then you are at the mercy of their server and network bandwidth.

  • How many transfer threads do you have configured? If your server is dedicated to bulk mailing, you may wish to increase the number of transfer threads.

  • How fast do you need these messages to be delivered? I believe one server would suffice but you could always load-balance between 2 or more to increase the overall ability to transfer messages.

  • How large are these messages? Sending out 25,000 PDF’s @ 5MB will take longer than 25,000 text e-mails @ 23kB etc.

—> Bottom line is Domino will handle that load but you should think about your goals & expectations to make sure you’ve configured the system to meet them.

  • For internal delivery, I’ve seen some software open each mail database and deposit the ‘mail’ directly so as not to clog the mail queues. I wouldn’t recommend it, but thought I’d mention it.

The term “at a time” is vague. Are you writing a memo manually, or do you have an agent sending these emails, or what? Are they in a group?

It’s not possible to use Send just once to send to so many recipients that are not in a group, because you exceed the limit of a summary field for the recipient list.

If you’re writing the memo on screen, you will need a group to send to, or else you can design a special form with some code in the Send button that does more than just the regular send.

You can always send as many emails as you want using code that has a loop in it. But how do you know who to send to? What should the recipients see in the To, CC and BCC fields? What are the other requirements of your task?

and it is dependent on native Notes or Internet email. Yahoo.com throttles email from one specific IP address so it make take a few hours to get hundreds of emails to Yahoo.
