How does Notes find the JVM?

After upgrading my Notes client from R5 to 6.5.5, none of my Java agents works. The error message received is “JVM: Java Virtual Machine failed to start.”

So, my first question is, how does Notes locate the JVM, and why did it forget the location of the JVM between R5 and 6.5?

And the more important question is, how can I fix it?

the jvm is part of the notes install and is located in the notes program directory. it could be a problem with the notes.jar file. check whether there are maybe more than one copy on your machine.
