I need to be able to get the Windows machine name from within a LotusScript agent. How can I do this?
The agent is a scheduled agent that runs on the server, but it can also be run on the server by a background client agent, or run on the client.

Have a look at the ENVIRON function in the Help database.

That didn’t help any. Can you be more specific?
Pretend you’re talking to a unix guru who has been programming in LotusScript for a few years. ![]()

If you can’t find the script API mentioned in an earlier post, I normally just use lotuscript to create a .cmd/batch file (Open file for output) on the user’s c drive, (shell out to it to run it) the batch file will just echo %computerName% to another text file which you can then read from lotuscript using Open file for input.
Kind of a kludge but it works.

I hate to post this cluttering the search for someone else with a “do a search”. However search for machine name and look through there. I did the same about 1 year ago and found a very easy API call written in LS to do this very function.

Mike, (modified) from the Help File:

TempNm$ = Environ(“ComputerName”)
Print TempNm$
