How can I implement unified communications?

I have been asked to provide “unified communications” within the context of the Lotus Notes 8 client. I am an experience Notes application developer but I have never worked with anything like this. Similar to Microsoft Communicator which adds address book context to email addresses in Outlook, they would like to be able to hover over a user’s name in an open email (for example) and be presented with a list of actions, such as send the user an email, send an instant message, list the user’s phone number and possibly some additional information. I know that Sametime provides some of the functionality, but I have never seen any of it exposed to the Notes Designer client. Where would I even look to get some information on doing something like this? Any advice is appreciated because I have no idea where to start.

Thanks in advance!

Kevin

Subject: DUC 1.2.5 (Domino Unified Communications)

If you’re talking about Unified Communications related to IP Phone systems, Domino Unified communications has components that integrate directly with the Domino Server as well as plug-ins and components that work with Sametime.

As far as the Cisco plug-ins, you can integrate wtih Cisco MeetingPlace, have presence and click to call, as well as Cisco Voicemail all through plug-ins, right in Sametime.

The documentation from Cisco is very good.
