Hotspot Link in email doesn't work

I have an agent that allows a user to select a document and the agent return the URL for that document. The agent is as follows:

            Dim session As New NotesSession

            Dim db As NotesDatabase

Dim dc As NotesDocumentCollection

Dim doc As NotesDocument

Dim rti As NotesRichTextItem

Dim rtlink As NotesRichTextDocLink

Set db = session.CurrentDatabase

Set dc = db.UnprocessedDocuments

Set doc = dc.GetFirstDocument

Dim xserver As String

xserver = Strright(Strleft(db.server, "/"),"=")

’ Messagebox xserver

If Lcase(xserver) = "fdnet01" Then

	xserver = "www.fdnet.com"

Else

	xserver = xserver + ".fdnet.com"

End If

Dim xfilepath As String

xfilepath = Replace(db.filepath, "\", "/")

Dim xString As String

xURL = "htttp://" + xserver + "/" + xfilepath +"/0/" +  doc.Universalid + "?OpenDocument"

’ Messagebox xURL

xstring = (Inputbox$("URL is ",,xURL))

End Sub

For example the agent would return in the messagebox,

htttp://dev10.fdnet.com/notesdev/gashford/NOL_02.nsf/053469A50F3087AF852571E200676BB3?OpenDocument

The agent works fine. If I copy the contents of the messagebox directloy to the IE6 browser address, the document comes up fine.

If I compose an email and create a Link => Link Hotspot and paste the URL into the value, send the email, and then click on the Hotspot, the message “The page cannot be displayed” comes up. The “URL” in the broswer address is EXACTLY the same as when I pasted directly.

Anyone have any ideas as to why I get the Page cannot be displayed" error.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi. Not sure if I can help but I’ll try. But first a couple of questions… Have you confirmed the URL is correct in the browser when you receive the error message? Are you sending the email to yourself or to another user - if so, do they have the same access to the database and document that you do?

The URL is correct. If I manually paste the URL in the browser address, there is not any problem calling up the document. The problem occurs when a hotspot link in an email is used to call up the document. The URL in the hotspot link is exactly the same as the URL that I manually paste.

The problem happens for both users that have tested it. I am one of the users and have manager priviledges to the database.

Problem solved. My agent was putting in “htttp” instead of “http”, i.e. an extra “t”. For example,htttp://dev10.fdnet.com/notesdev/gashford/NOL_02.nsf/053469A50F3087AF852571E200676BB3?OpenDocument

When the URL was manually pasted into the IE6 address field, the extra “t” was automatically removed. However, when you use a link hotspot from an email then the extra “t” is not removed and you get “Invalid Syntax Error” and "The Page cannot be displayed.
