I have been in contact with Lotus support in this matter but haven´t got an answer yet.So i´ll try this forum instead and hope there is somebody who can help me.
My problem is that i can´t get this to work properly. I want to have the old addressbook and bookmarks for the user.
I have users that is installed and configured as a single user. (version 5.011) Program directory c:\Lotus\Notes. Data directory c:\Lotus\Notes\data.
I want to upgrade that user to Lotus Notes 6.5 and multiple user.
What shall i do. Must i first install multiuser and then copy the data directory to the new location on the hard-drive.
Then upgrade the persondokument in tha NAB?
Has somebody outthere a step by step solution that works? I´have read everything in FAQ about Roaming and most of the things in this forum.
I would be most greatfull for some insight in this.

To begin with, I think you have a common misunderstanding of multi user and roaming user. Roaming user is an attribute of the user, the system admin can upgrade a given user to roaming. When that user then authenticates with their home server, they will be informed that they have been upgraded and ask if they want the files on this system to become “their roaming files”. What this means is that their bookmarks, personal nab, journal, user dictionary, most user preferences (machine specific do not roam) and optionally their id file will all be replicated up to their roaming server. Now if this user has other systems he will be prompted to replicate down his roaming files to these systems.Multi user is an install option that is machine specific. A multi user install is for any system on which you wish to have multiple users using notes and keep their data directories separate. On a multi user system there is a “shared data directory”, this directory contains the template files, modem file, help files and the systems dictionaries. In the multi user install you can not specify a data directory because we use the windows user directories for each user. This allows the personal data for each user to be maintained.
If you currently have a single user install and wish to go to a multi user install, you should install the multi user notes and then seed any user directories you want on that system. But you only want to move databases to the user directory NOT templates or system directories. Also if you move the notes.ini you will need to modify it to point to the correct data directory and add the shared data directory path.
I know this most likely does not answer all your question since it is just a quick blurb on the issue. There is a lot more information that I will be providing in an article on LDD. I am in the process of beginning that article now.

Thank you for your comments. Maybe my posting was a little bit unclear and fuzzy but i can asure you that i know the differce between multiuser install and roaming user.
What i want is both.
What i get after using a multi-user install with roaming AND clean-up AND have an X in “Store ID in local addressbook” is that everytime i start Notes, the system asking me for the location of notesID.
My question is´t about the administration of roaming. It is about how do go about when going from a single-user install to a multi-user install. Should i copy something from the old data catalog on the client, if so what.
And is there something else i should do from installing client perspective if i also want to roam later on?

Ok, if you are going to use both roaming and multi then the migration is a bit easier. If you first upgarde the user to roaming and let their info replicate up to the server then install multi user. When that user signs on their files form the server should replicate down to their personal directory. Then if the user has any other files that they need, i.e. local dbs or full text index those files need to be copied over to their data directory.Does this help? However, when I calmed down from the excitement, I realized that it won’t quite work for a group of our users. They are currently running Notes 5.0.9. I need to install multi-user clients as well as making the users roaming. Got any suggestions for this one?
Subject: BUT you can’t make a pre-Notes 6 user roaming, no?
I was under the impression that a user had to be a Notes 6.x user in order to make them a roaming user. If that is the case, your recommendation won’t work. Please tell me you are right and my assumption is wrong. I need to upgrade a number of users from 5.0.9 to 6.0.1 and the PCs need to be multi-user and the users roaming.
I thought it would be worthwhile to post a migration procedure for getting from Notes 5.0.x to a roaming, multi-user ND6 architecture.
It’s NOT tested (although I will be trying it out shortly). Mainly the aim is to get improvements or confirmation from those who have already done this.
Have you done any more testing on this procedure? I have some users that have roaming files on their shared network drive. I will need to migrate them from 5.07 to 6.5 with multi-user/roaming user configuration. Your procedure seems that it will work for my situation. Just wondering if you have any updates…
