I’m looking into setting up an Intranet. The requirements are quite basic. I want our departments to be able to set up different pages with information, links etc. Since internal information is almost exclusively shared using Lotus Notes, I’m reluctant to setting up an Intranet based on web technology. I want my company to have a traditional Intranet that they can access from the Notes client.
Can anyone help me find useful information or a perhaps a good database template that helpds me set this up? I would like things like a bulletin board, a department-based structure of pages etc and also some sort of content management tool.

In an environment where everyone has a Notes client, there is little reason to go to HTML technologies. Every portal solution I have seen had a different look and feel. Depending on what the key goals are for yours, you can make one or more databases from templates and tie them together in a cohesive package. Understanding what really is intended is the hard part. That will determine how you balance security and flexibility, as well as how much time you are allowed to customize it. Consider the OpenNTF template as well as built-in ones – Discussion, TeamRoom, Document Library, etc. Be sure to look at how flexible it is for setting up roles (moderators/approvers/etc.) as well as setting up areas for different work units. Keeping everything in a single database has certain advantages. If you have lots of divergent types of info and lots of opinionated people, you may move to a series of databases connected by a common homepage/launchpad. They may be driven by a common navigational frameset. In other words, it depends.
