HEI: Domino Server question for Notes Connections

Newbie to HEI Admin. This is probably a dumb question...

For "Connection to Notes" connection documents the documentation for "Domino Server" indicates the following:
Specifies the name of the server where the Notes® database identified by this connection is located. Leave this field blank if the database is to be accessed locally.

Would the following be true? If you leave the field value blank, the server used is "local" which would be the HEI Server.

No this wont be true. HEI is installed on top of Domino Server itself. The "Local" here means list of application present on your local machine not on HEI Server.

The "Domino Server" field indicates the name of the server where your notes application resides.

Check for the next field "Notes Database". The value in this field populates depending upon the server name entered for "Domino Server" field.

If you keep "Domino Server" field as blank and try to populate the "Notes Database" field, it will display the list of databases present on your LOCAL (i.e. list of nsf present in your Notes Data Directory").

If you keep some valid server name say "Sales/ACME" for "Domino Server" field and try to populate the "Notes Database" field, it will display the list of databases present on "Sales/ACME".

Sorry, I screwed up on my typing.

Lets say the Domino Server is "Server A" and this server has HEI installed.

Wouldn't the job using the Connection access "Server A" if the Domino Server field is blank? Basically the "Local" server is the Domino Server (Server A) when HEI runs the Job.

No, you have to explicitly mention the server name "Server A" in your case if you want that to be involved. If you don't specify this server, how will you populate the "Notes Database" field?

"Local" doesn't mean your Domino server has HEI installed. "Local" means nsf present on your local machine (that is in your NOTES DATA DIRECTORY).
You can try that in your environment by passing the Server name or keeping it blank. See what list is getting displayed for "Notes Database" field in both scenarios.

Refer to the screenshot shared with you earlier.

The testing results i have shared have Domino Server "Sales" on top which HEI is installed.

Lets say the Domino Server is the HEI Server (Server A).

You definitely need to select Server A if you need to select the database path.

You can then remove the Domino Server value for when the Job runs. It will use Server A as the Domino Server.

Hi Michael,

Yes, the scenario mentioned by you is correct.

Once the connection document is configured, later on, you can remove the Domino server name and the job will run without any issues.
