Then I create a field using defalut font size 10 and its called Untitled. Becasue the name of the field is YAY long (1.12’ inches wide to be exact) it INCREASES the wdith of my colun to 1.12’ inches to fit this ‘artificial’ width of the field.
If i change the name of the field to ‘A’ then the field is now 0.6 inches long (at a 10 point font…so now I can decrease the width of my column to 0.6!
This only happens to SOME tables. I can’t figure out why though! what’s triggering this ‘forced’ column size to fit notes style fields?
Subject: Has anyone figured out why table columns somtimes expand to fit a notes field?
I may have found some method to this madness…it SEEMS that if you create a table with say 3 columns and NO fields and THEN you appen a column (or INsert a column) then you start creating your fields in the columns the columns auto size to fit this ‘artificial field width’. If you create your table and do NOT add any additional columns and beggin adding your fields your columns can shrink to as small as 0.125.
I did some testing and this was the case for me. However, it may not be limited to this scenario.
