Go Directly to Desired URL (Not Home Page) After Login

Hi,

I am trying to figure out what configuration is necessary to allow a web user to go directly to a desired URL, rather than just the home page, after logging in.

We have databases on Domino servers “A” and “B”. After the user is initially prompted to log in, server “A” takes the user directly to the desired URL, but server “B” forgets everything in the URL except the server name and the user ends up at the home page and must navigate to where he wants to go. It is especially annoying on server “B” when a user’s 45 minute session has timed out. He will be prompted to log back in, but once he does, he again ends up back at the home page, not the page he was last at.

If it were not for the behavior of server “A” I would have thought that jumping directly to a URL was not possible in Domino, but that is incorrect. I just can’t figure out what is different between the two servers. I believe my question deals with a Notes Admin issue rather than design, but I am not positive.

There’s a “RedirectTo” field on the login form. This is used to tell Domino where to send the browser to after a successful login.

Are you using costom login forms? if so, check that this field exists on Server B’s form. If not, that may be the cause of the problem

Kieran,

Thanks for your response. I checked, and yes,

we are using a custom login form on server “B” with a RedirectTo field set to “/” thus explaining why the user always ends up at the home page.

On server “A” it is the default gray popup login box that appears. I guess that there is no “RedirectTo” setting in this case, so the original URL entered is used? Maybe that is how it works.

Hi Ken

Yep - that’s exactly right.

if you set the “RedirectTo” formula to “redirectto” (minus the quotes) it should work
