Global Subforms...?

Still way behind the rest of the World here on Notes 5, but I can I pick the brains of this forum with a Notes 7 question?

I seem to recall going to a Lotus presentation at which they were describing features of Notes 7 and one of the things I think they mentioned although I can find no record of now, is global subforms eg 1 subform which could potentially be used in all databases. Is this feature available in Notes 7 or was I dreaming?

There is another problem. In the 6 code stream there is a bug that if you place a complex subform (appears to be related to tables in tables) it may crash the client when they open the form. If the Subform is inserted by a formula this is not a problem, even if the formula is just the name of the subform.

Cheers Bill - another thing to bear in mind should I ever get that upgrade!!!

Subject: And if you get the upgrade don’t stop at 6.5 go all the way to 7

it will be no more painful going all the way to 7 as it is to go to 6.5. In fact I have not experienced any problems moving from 5 → 6.0 → 6.5 → 7.0 → 7.0.2I really respect IBM/Lotus commitment to making these transitions as painless as possible. I have been around long enough to have made all of the migrations from R3 and from R3 to R4.0 and then to R4.5 were not easy. We were a Beta site for R5 and I remember getting a notice from Lotus that said that if R5 broke an existing application they would consider it a bug, and they help pretty close to that because we ported all of our applications to R5 pretty much without incidence.

Besides 7 has enough stuff in it from a developers perspective to make it worth holding out for that.

Yes, that can be done using Create → Resource → Insert Subform and then selecting the database which contains the required subform.

I believe this feature was introduced in R6/6.5 release.

Cheers Nasir, sounds like just what I am after. Oh for Notes 7 now!!!

Subject: RE: Global Subforms…?

…but it has one limitation which i faced…don’t know if there is any work arround for this:

Subforms from other databases can only be called at design time which means that you can’t created computed subforms from other databases. So if you want to load subforms from other database based on a certain condition, you can’t do so. Computed subforms only loads from current database.

Subject: RE: Global Subforms…?

That could well throw a spanner in the works as computed subforms would certainly be required for what I am after - thanks for the warning!!!
