How do I get rid of the red deletion mark in Lotus Notes? I got a message telling me that my messages over 120 days old would be deleted and the red marks appeared next to them, so I archived those messages, but they still have the red marks in the archive. How do I remove the red deletion mark?
Deletion marks show up as a red “X” next to the name of the sender of the e-mail. The organization I work for has a policy of automatically deleting e-mail that is over 120 days old. It tags those e-mails that will be deleted with the red “X”. The way to prevent the e-mail from being deleted is to archive it, but when I archive the messages they still have red "X"s next to them in the archive and I am worried that they will be deleted.
Opening and closing the message does not give me a dialog asking for any confirmation and the deletion mark is still there.
There is no “120 day deletion marking” in Notes out of the box. This sounds like a custom solution, and you will need to consult your own IT about it.
However, it seems likely that all they’ve done is set some field in the document to a value that tells the column formula to display a particular icon. The Notes client doesn’t care about this, and will not delete documents automatically because they contain whatever field value it is.
The deletion is probably done by an agent that runs periodically on the server, in each user’s mail file. It seems unlikely that this agent will run in archive databases, since that would defeat the purpose. But people have done sillier things.
