Generate a delayed email reminder from a sent email

I have a user who will send an email out to “Bob” and wants a reminder (via email) to himself in 14 days to check for a reply. I told him that whenever he sends an email he should create a reminder to himself, but he’s hoping there’s an easier way – perhaps a way of cc-ing himself, but not sending the cc until 14 days later. Is this at all possible?

For this sort of thing we’ve created a seperate (meetings) application where you can specify if you want a reminder send to yourself and when.

I don’t know of anything in e-mail outside of the Advance Workflow option which can put a reminder in Bob’s To Do list.

I suggest you take a close look at the Follow-up function in the 6.5.x client.

It’ll do exactly as you describe in your post, and more.

Great Solution! One question: is the copy in the Sent folder the best one to flag, or is there a way to do it automatically when you’re sending the mail?

The 6.5.x code stream does NOT allow you to mark a document for follow-up upon message creation.

The 7.0.x code stream DOES allow you to mark a document for follow-up upon message creation.

For 6.5.x clients, you have to first send the message, then mark it for follow-up. At that point, it does not make any difference if you flag the document in the sent mail folder, an alternate folder or an archive.

The follow-up flag with the correct reminder attibutes will do exactly as you desire.

For 7.0.x clients, you can optionally mark it for follow-up during document creation.

This worked well on my computer, but when I went to the user’s computer to demonstrate it, it wouldn’t allow me to drag and drop a Sent email into the Follow-up folder. Do I need to turn it on, somehow? I believe that everyone here is using a 6.x version (note: I myself am using 7).

Thanks!

Sorry, my mistake – I thought I was doing that on my computer, and had forgotten about the Mark as Follow-up step in between.

Cool, I didn’t know about that. Thanks.
