General Migration Questions

Hi,Please let me start by apologising. I know very little about Notes and Domino. I am from an Exchange background.

I have a client who has a company with a number of independently operating sub companies. All these companies are running Notes of some flavour. Some of them are on Netware and some on NT and WIN2K AD.

I need to create a common system between them all. Sadly, I do not who has what version of Notes. This is a publishing organisation and they do not spend much money (Well not until now).

I would like to create a new parallel organisation and migrate the existing users into the new controlled system from whatever they are on now.

I have been told that they do not have applications on much of the Notes environment but what they have got is unclear.

Can anyone outline some of the major pitfalls and opportunities to achieve what I am trying to do.

I understand a little about NOtes organisations and domains. I undertand a little about cascaded address books, directory assistance.

If I establish a completely separate Notes system how do I move people to it? Are their tools like the Quest Exchange migration tool? Are their any tools that allow domain names to be shared whilst in a migration?

all comments and advice will be appreciated. I am trying to work out whether my goal is possible and what are the major steps involved. Also I am trying to work out the major hurdles that I need to plan for or work around,

Thanks for your patience,

Simon

Subject: General Migration Questions

You haven’t given us (or at least me) a lot to go on. Too many question marks. You need to do a very good job of discovering what they have, releases, platforms, etc. One thing that may help is this:

You can find a lot of information here:

You can use the coexistance tools to keep your Exchange users up while the migration takes place. Or you can use other tools like TFS Gateway:

Subject: RE: General Migration Questions

Greg,Thanks for the links. I am sorry for having many questions but Notes is so new to me.

The links do not sadly point me towards and Lotus Notes to Lotus Notes migration tips.

in principle is it posssible and/or relatively easy to migrate mail from one Notes certification organisation to another one? Do the users lose anything in the translation?

Once again many thanks,

Regards,

Sam.
