FYI on LocalService, NetworkService, and other profile issues with Syamantec AV 10.1.x

If you run accross one of these two issues you can rest assured that this is not a lotus notes problem.

We are running Domino 6.5.5 FP1 on servers

Clients are 6.5.2 & 6.5.4 Multi User installs

OS is W2K and XP

A.) User has their Multi user Lotus Notes client setup correctly under their correct profile name(C:\Documents and Settings\name.…, and mysteriously thier Lotus Data moved into a different profile (LocalService, NetworkService, Administrator, …etc)

or

B) Install Lotus Notes and when the users logs in the Lotus Notes directories ends up in one of the Profiles above, instead of in their Profile.

This is a known issue directly related to Norton Antivirus 10.1.1 through 10.1.4. According to Symantec it is supposed to be fixed in 10.1.5.5000 but we are in the process of testing.

I will post any updates I have concerning this issue as they become available.

As a side note, when the profile changes the users is prompted with the initial setup screen like it is the first time they are logging into notes. Some of our users are Roaming…need I say more.

Good Luck

Jerry

Here us some additional info from IBM technical Support:I found additional information that points to Symantec as being the cause of your profile problem with multi-user installs. Please review the information provided in the links below and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

It appears that the problem doesn’t just affect the Lotus Notes client. Other companies are having MS Windows profile issues with their roaming users and just as you have experienced, these problems also started after installing SAV 10.1x. According to the information found on our site, Symantec is aware of this issue and have stated that it is addressed in 10.1.5.500. I recommend at this point that you contact Symantec support to find out the details of the problem and if this issue is actually fixed in that release.
