Hello all,
Is there a plan or roadmap for HCL Docs?
2.0.2 has been available for quite a while now, but it feels like nothing has happened in development for years.
Microsoft's online editors, on the other hand, have been continuously developed and are now vastly superior to Docs.
I love Connections, but it's hard to explain to users that so much of what they take for granted just doesn't work.
So what's the future of Docs? Or maybe there will be integration with the MS editors? If something doesn't happen there soon, I don't see much of a future for Connections with us. Files are such an important part.
It would be nice to get an official statement from HCL here.
Regards, Daniel
Hi Daniel,
Most of our enhancement requests are shared in HCL Connections Ideas Portal https://connections-ideas.hcltechsw.com/
I noticed that we have numerous suggestions that have been tagged for future consideration:

However, the particular feature you are interested in may not be included among these ideas.
As such, we recommend that you submit your request through the Ideas Portal.
Best Regards.

Hi Daniel,
we have made a decision a while ago that trying to build a competitive product to the MS Office suite is not providing a strong business case for us.
That means in effect that Docs 2.0.2 is going to be supported but we do not plan any new features or major updates.
Integrating with the MS Office suite is the better option and we have delivered integration points with Teams, SharePoint, Outlook and the office editors along the way that hopefully address the core needs. Can we do more? Yes of course, and I hope we will be able to add features as we go.
Hi Rene,
this is not the answer I was hoping for, but the one I was expecting.
The existing integration points with Teams, Sharepoint and Outlook are a good start but don't go far enough. After all, the integration with Word/Excel/PowerPoint currently only works via Edit on Desktop.
Have you considered integrating the MS Office Web Apps directly through the Cloud Storage Partner Program via WOPI?
See https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/cloud-storage-partner-program/online/overview
That would be a real added value and would also make Connections more popular again among users for storing documents.
Thanks and regards,
Daniel
