Full text index search not finding numbers

Please complete the details below then remove this line:

Notes Client 14.0

A user is no longer able to search a fully indexed Mail database if the search criteria includes just numeric values. For example, if the person is searching for invoice number 103155 no results are found. But if the search criteria is set as I103155 the documents are found by the search. I’ve tried additional searches with numbers only and no results are found. Partial text searches work correctly as long as the first character is alpha. Am I missing a setting in the search results allowing numerals to be found?

Thank you.

Anita

Hi Anita,

We would like to know two things:

  • Was numeric-only search working previously in this mail database, or is this a new issue you’ve just encountered?
  • Are other users experiencing the same issue when searching with numbers only, or is it isolated to a specific user or database?

If so, we highly suggest performing database maintenance for the affected user. Please follow the commands below:

load updall -F [mail/database.nsf]
load compact -c [mail/database.nsf]
load fixup -F [mail/database.nsf]

Please make sure that the database is not currently in use to avoid encountering an error message like: “Database currently in use.”

If the issue persists, proceed on recreating the Full Text Index.

Thank you for the reply.

The numeric-only search was previously working but the user reported that it stopped last week. I also tested the search and encountered the same issue.

Based on other blog postings, I did run those three commands but the search still did not work. I deleted the index and re-created it. The numeric-only search is now working.

Hi Anita,

That’s great news that the numeric-only search is fixed!

Just to confirm, how does the alphanumeric search I103155 behave now? It sounds like recreating the FTI resolved the entire issue, is that correct?

Thanks!

Hello again,

After one day, the database reverted back to not finding the numeric string. I re-ran the server commands but the numeric string was not found. I re-indexed the database, still no success with the search string. I deleted the index and was successful finding the numeric string. I’ve not re-created the index yet. I’m going to check again tomorrow if the string is found without the database being indexed.

Is it possible the ‘Inherit design from master template’ switch is making some change to the database overnight? The database template is StdR114Mail.

Anita

Hi Anita,

In response to your concern, no, it would not create any changes to the database overnight, even if the Inherit design from master template option is checked.

If the issue is still recurring, we suggest creating a ticket for further investigation.

Thanks!

Thank you for your input and guidance related to this posting. I’ll check the database again tomorrow and if the issue has returned, I’ll create a support ticket.

Have a good day.

Hi Anita,

That sounds like a great plan. Thanks for checking the database again tomorrow. If the issue comes back, please don’t hesitate to create a support ticket. We are more than happy to assist you.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Anita

You can workaround this by using below workaround :
In the search view, use below command
[name of the field]=number
eg : [age]=55
